Lagos, Nigeria's commercial
capital, is a land flowing with milk, honey and bitter-leaf. To the
uninitiated, the acclaimed centre of excellence will only come across as an
eldorado. To veterans, however, Eko is an irony of sorts.
Make no mistake about it,
billions flow in the land. And so do red oil and eggs. While stepping out to
work this morning, yours sincerely encountered two small calabashes - filled
with sparkling red oil and 3 eggs each - placed at the strategic Obalende-CMS
bridge intersection. Haba! On a Monday morning?!!
Spontaneously, I bursted into
tongues, nullifying and destroying the works of the devil. I have learnt not to
take such things for granted. Trust me, such a 'ritualistic' sight could easily
distort your mental calculations for the day.
From daylight highway rituals
to the perpetually angry bus drivers, and then to the ever-demanding bosses at
work, staying focused in today's world indeed takes a great deal of courage.
Courage, in this context,
"involves working at a relationship, continually seeking solutions to
difficult problems, and staying focused during stressful periods," says
Denis Waitley.
So how do U stay focused in a
confused world like ours?
First, define yourself. Who
exactly are you? What do you do for a living? Why are you here? What is it U
feel U are born to do that makes U fulfilled?
If you don't have straight
answers to those questions, then you should at least have a clue. But if you don't,
then you need to jerk up your 'self-esteemometer'.
Your result is a function of
your level of self-esteem. Iyanla Vanzant puts it this way, “Everything
that happens to U is a reflection of what U believe about yourself. We cannot
outperform our level of self-esteem. We cannot draw to ourselves more than we
think we are worth.”
This is a life-long journey,
not a one-off thing. If U think U can, U can.
Kindly share.
